Sensory Processing Dysfunction (SPD) Support
Mission
Atlantis Centers, Inc. was originally established with the mission to help children with Sensory Processing Dysfunction (SPD) that need special care and management.
Atlantis parents believe that no child should be failed for his or her special need, no matter how difficult his or her needs are, no matter how difficult it is to manage his or her case within the existing health and education environment. Our staff believes that our children are the product of their environment, therefore we keep focused by changing the surrounding environment to the best interest of our children and their progress.
Objectives
Atlantis' objectives are built on achieving success with our future generation (our children). The program is designed to serve and support neurologically impaired and disabled children and their families.
The successful project and the collaborative effort between our community leaders, parents, health, and alternative medical doctors and researchers are the benchmark of our organization.
Goals
- Safe environment: assure that patient receives the highest quality of care in the safest environment
- Educational activities: an essential component of services delivered to the patient and the community
- Health promotions: monitor each patient's profile carefully and process the next best promoted program to enhance the patient's functions and performances
- Health care consultants to small businesses
- Well run programs: supervise and ensure each patient has the proper rehabilitation program
- Prevention and control: plan program with patient and the family to prevent and control any further insult or harm to each patient medical practice
What Is Sensory Processing Dysfunction
Sensory Processing Dysfunction is a relatively new illness and discovery. Dr Jean Ayres and her theory of Sensory Processing Dysfunction were introduced early in the century.
Basically our sensory system includes visual, auditory, tactile, mobility, language and manual (as well as vestibular senses and proprioceptive senses). According to the neuro-scientists and the brain development theories, this system starts developing before birth and continues to develop up to an average of 72 months/six years of age. Any unfortunate event that would happen during that critical time of the brain and system development will effect the child's development and his future health.
The Sensory Processing Dysfunction illness is just a symptom of an insult to the brain which becomes disorganized due to that trauma at any level of the brains development. According to the Institute for the Achievement of Human Potential, its considered that any child with an impairment or disability be diagnosed as a brain injured child and not be labeled with new terms or diagnosis, such as:
- Mentally Retarded
- Down Syndrome
- Progressive Development Delay
- Abnormal Language Delay
- Autism
- Fragile
- Bi-Polar Disorder
- Learning Disabilities
